As Spain's first capital, Toledo is saturated with history. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1986, this is the city that inspired Renaissance painter El Greco in the 16th century. Since then it has remained largely unchanged in its blend of Arabic, Jewish, Christian and Visigothic elements. Toledo is famous for its splendid Cathedral, which houses several of El Greco’s paintings along with many other art treasures.

The flourishing capital of Al-Andalus (Muslim Spain), Córdoba was the richest and most populated city of Europe between the 8th and 10th centuries. The 1,200-year old Gran Mezquita (mosque), consecrated as the cathedral in 1236, is one of the most unique and beautiful buildings in the world. Other sights in Córdoba include a 2,000-year-old Roman bridge and former synagogues.

Known as the “City of Reflections,” this wonderful Spanish city is rich with history. Sevilla rests along the banks of the Guadalquivir River. Sights include Europe’s largest Gothic cathedral, which houses the remains of Cristopher Columbus, and the Alcázar, a beautiful 14th-century Mudéjar palace.

La Alpujarra is a region located near the Sierra Nevada National Park, roughly an hour and a half from the city of Granada. Aside from its natural beauty and location, Ronda is home to an 11th-century Arab bath and the 18th-century Plaza de Toros, where modern bullfighting was born.
